Tidal Ventures - Principal

Role Application

Since launching Tidal Ventures, we have seen an overwhelming opportunity in the Australian market to back great founders with Seed venture capital. In response, we are looking to build our team. We are looking for a Principal to join our investment team. If you are an individual who thrives on helping founders with Seed-phase challenges, with a love for technology products, an insatiable curiosity and an investor mindset, this is the role for you.

A Principal at Tidal is a person who can source, diligence, drive and win a venture deal. We are looking for a person with at least five years experience in a professional position, who has 'been early' at a startup or tech company and can draw on specific knowledge that is relevant for our founders. Prior investing experience with M&A or early stage investing is desirable. Here are some of the qualities you will need to demonstrate to be successful at Tidal:

The ability to draw upon a level of lived-in knowledge in a specific area of expertise to help drive portfolio outcomes. You might have been a founder yourself previously, or maybe an operator at an early tech company in growth, product or engineering roles
The ability to formulate a clear thesis about future markets, products and tech, drawing upon experience creating, using or investing in software technology
Investing experience isn't critical, but you need to have an investor mindset and the qualities required to drive a deal to close, from first meeting to investment committee, to funding
High levels of founder empathy. You are the first call for our founders during situations of need
Enjoy working in a hybrid-remote, autonomous environment. You're a self-starter and task-oriented finisher and have a strong ownership mentality

What to expect from the role:

At a fast growing Seed fund, you can expect to work across all areas of the fund operations. Typical responsibilities will include:

Investing: sourcing deals, meeting with founders, conducting due diligence and preparing investment papers, presenting at Investment Committee and negotiating terms through to close. Portfolio: taking board directorships, working closely with our founders as they iterate toward product-market fit, go-to-market fit, hire their teams and raise capital. Our portfolio work sets us apart from our peers and we are proud of our focus on founder support during the Seed phase. Fund Administration: representing Tidal’s Seed Portfolio to our LPs, managing relationships with our LPs and fundraising for the fund.

What makes a Tidal team member:

We are a small team of investors from all walks of life that came together with a mission to create Australia’s leading Seed Venture Capital platform.

We are obsessed with the creation of technology products that have the potential to transform the way we work, transact, move and live in this world.

We spend our waking hours focused on super-charging the capabilities of our founders, so that we can create superior returns for our investors.

Whilst we will consider applications from any Australian resident for work purposes, you must have the ability to work physically in our Sydney office. We have a hybrid in-person / remote working culture.
